He entered a not guilty plea.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The coach initially was accused of &#8220;unlawfully, knowingly or recklessly&#8221; causing bodily harm to a daughter, whose age has not been confirmed.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The charges were dismissed without prejudice in a Kansas court in May.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The DA&#8217;s office looked at it a little more thoroughly and reviewed some additional information and agreed it was a matter that should be dismissed,&#8221; Merritt&#8217;s attorney, Ryan Ginie, told NFL Network after the charges were dismissed.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegorelocationnews.com\/index.php\/2026\/06\/12\/folsom-city-zoo-at-a-crossroads-as-council-weighs-sanctuarys-financial-future\/\">Folsom City Zoo at a crossroads as council weighs sanctuary\u2019s financial future<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The NFL&#8217;s investigation looked into whether Merritt, 54, violated the league&#8217;s personal conduct policy.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Merritt had a brief NFL playing career in the mid-1990s before entering the coaching profession in 1997. He was hired by the Chiefs in 2019.
