California does not set a legal minimum age for babysitters.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Instead, state regulations require parents to use what is known as a \u201creasonable and prudent parent standard\u201d when deciding whether a minor is capable of caring for a child.<\/p>\n

Parents should consider whether a babysitter is mature, responsible and experienced enough to provide proper supervision and respond appropriately if an emergency arises.<\/p>\n
