A law enforcement pursuit in Placer County ended in a fatality Friday evening when the involved driver crashed.

A Placer County sheriff’s deputy was chasing a white Chevrolet Tahoe speeding around 8:45 p.m. near the intersection of Gladding and Riosa roads outside of Lincoln, according to a Facebook post Saturday by the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
When the deputy tried to pull the driver over, the post said, the driver didn’t stop and a high-speed pursuit followed, as the driver reached speeds of 90 mph on rural roadways. The pursuit only lasted a few minutes, authorities said.
The driver ultimately drove into a field near McCourtney and Fleming roads, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies lost sight of the vehicle and used a helicopter to find it.

Deputies reached the crash site where they found the driver needed medical attention, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving measures.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The deceased driver’s identity was not immediately released.
