Francisco Lindor and the New York Mets have had just about as disappointing a season as anyone could have expected.

Lindor himself has appeared in just 40 games this year due to a strained left calf, and even when healthy his production has been underwhelming by his standards.
The 32-year-old switch-hitting shortstop has posted a .216 batting average, .298 on-base percentage, .671 OPS, five home runs and 12 RBIs.
That is not going to cut it for a player who historically has been one of the best in baseball as a five-time All-Star, two-time Gold Glove winner and four-time Silver Slugger.
He has not been a liability thanks to his elite defense, but he has not been the contributor the Mets need, and the team will now likely be selling at the trade deadline.
Lindor’s final game of the first half Sunday against the Boston Red Sox started off solidly. He drove in a run in the bottom of the first inning, doubling to left field, and then in the bottom of the sixth inning he launched a solo home run.
However, in the bottom of the ninth inning with one runner on first and one out, Romy Gonzalez grounded a routine double play ball to Lindor. Unfortunately, he bobbled the ball and let it get past him, unable to record any outs.

Had he made the play, the game would have ended. Instead it continued, and Boston went on to not only tie the game but win it in the 10th inning, handing the Mets their third straight loss.

Mets fans were understandably frustrated with Lindor after the game despite his strong performance at the plate, as his defensive miscue ultimately cost them.
“LINDOR CAME IN CLUTCH IN THE 9TH AGAIN,” a fan said sarcastically.
Another added, “Lindor threw the game and was seen smiling in the dugout after.”
“This loss was 100% Lindor’s fault,” one more wrote.
“LINDOR and all his fancy gloves and shoes can’t make plays anymore! Stop with the fashion shows everyday and play the damn game!!! ,” a fan exclaimed.
Another wrote, “Lindor went from hero to zero.”
After the game, Lindor spoke with reporters and shouldered the blame. “I didn’t finish the play and it’s unacceptable. Not playing to the standard that I have, not playing to the organization’s standards. I got to get better,” Lindor said, via SNY.

The hope is that the All-Star break serves as a reset for both Lindor and the Mets, but with the team trending toward sellers at the deadline, the second half figures to look very different for this roster.
