Former longtime ESPN personality Jalen Rose has a bone to pick with the network’s biggest personality, Stephen A. Smith.

Last week Smith got into yet another online beef, this time with Draymond Green and Jemele Hill over whether he can consider himself a “journalist.” After mocking Hill, Smith said that he’d be happy to debate either one of them on his show.

That didn’t sit well with Rose, who took to X shortly afterwards and admonished Smith (albeit without using his name), declaring that beefs between media members and inviting them onto shows to discuss it is just “chasing clicks,” “phony” and “lame.”

“The most phony thing amongst “media” members is “beefing” then saying I’ll go on your show or vice versa to discuss it. (see chasing clicks). LAME,” Rose wrote on X.

An Exhausting Pattern

Fans agreed that Smith’s longtime strategy of getting into beefs and trying to get the subject on his show has become both predictable and tiring:

“Media says something about player. Player snaps back. Media member says let’s talk face to face and that’s phony? Is it not phony to not want to talk face to face?” one user remarked.

“Come on, Dr. Rose – you know that’s how they make money. It’s entertainment as much as anything,” wrote another.

“A legal scam,” a third wrote.

But not all of the responses were in agreement. Plenty believe that talking things out is the optimal way to resolve any kind of issue, regardless of how they get started. More feel that Rose himself is the wrong person to make this kind of criticism.

“What’s even more lame is doing (expletive) like this without putting a name on it. Makes you look scary. Say their names. Congratulations, you just made yourself look just as lame.”

“Wanting to speak face 2 face is lame? you tweeting with out mentioning the person is chasing clicks and lame.”

“Disagree…. Need more face to face discussions.”

Do you think Rose has a point, or is he just trying to make something out of nothing?
