A Sacramento County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man Wednesday morning after reports of an armed suspect with a knife in the Foothill Farms neighborhood, authorities said.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said the man was an “attempted murder suspect” and confirmed that the suspect died following the officer-involved shooting near Diablo Drive and Andrea Boulevard. The agency said all deputies were uninjured and that additional information would be released as it became available.
Two people were reported injured after the shooting occurred about 6:45 a.m. near the 5700 block of Diablo Drive. Officials have not released information about the circumstances leading to the shooting or the extent of the injuries.
Audio dispatches reviewed by The Bee, however, indicate deputies were initially sent to the area of Diablo Drive and Elkhorn Boulevard shortly after 6:30 a.m. when a Starbucks employee reported that a man carrying a kitchen knife entered the coffee shop, asked to use the restroom and attempted to go behind the counter after being refused.

According to the dispatch traffic, the suspect then left the business on foot. Minutes later and about three blocks north, deputies broadcast a report of shots fired at the 5700 block of Diablo Drive and requested fire personnel to respond.
Radio traffic reviewed by The Bee indicates two victims suffered apparent knife wounds before at least one deputy fired on the suspect. Both victims were reported to have multiple knife wounds.
The Sheriff’s Office said major traffic closures remained in effect on Diablo Drive and Andrea Boulevard and asked the public to avoid the area while the investigation continued.
