A Folsom firefighter was injured while battling a residential fire early Wednesday.

Crews responded shortly before 1:15 a.m. to the area of Dunstable Way and Wellfleet Circle. Fire officials said one home was heavily damaged, and a second home sustained damage to its attic and exterior. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“Upon arrival, initial fire crews encountered heavy flames involving multiple outbuildings. The fire quickly spread from an outbuilding to two homes,” Battalion Chief Nick Lawlor wrote in a statement.
The fire was contained shortly before 2:15 a.m., according to the Fire Department, which said most personal belongings were saved from the second home.

A firefighter was taken to Mercy Hospital of Folsom with a minor injury and has since been released, according to the Fire Department. One cat remains missing, but fire crews were unable to locate its remains. No additional injuries were reported.
A total of 48 firefighters responded from the Folsom Fire Department, El Dorado Hills Fire Department and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, according to Lawlor. Folsom police also assisted with evacuations, scene security and traffic control.
