A Sacramento County man filed a lawsuit against the city of Rancho Cordova and several contracting and engineering firms after he allegedly crashed an electric bicycle on a city road, claiming a construction hazard was not properly marked.

The lawsuit alleges plantiff Daniel Lausevic was traveling about 20 mph on Kilgore Road near Baroque Drive on Aug. 12 when the front wheel of his electric bicycle struck a black-and-white horizontal rubber base, causing him to crash.
He suffered “a fracture to his left leg, a fractured right clavicle, a left foot sprain and numerous abrasions and contusions,” according to the lawsuit, filed July 13.
According to the complaint, the rubber base was part of the city’s Baroque Drive Traffic Calming Project, which created a dangerous condition because the defendants “failed to properly install, maintain, manage, inspect, repair, design, operate, monitor and/or control” the project.
According to the city of Rancho Cordova’s website, the Baroque Drive Traffic Calming Project, completed in 2025, included “surface treatment and striping, enhanced crosswalks, lane narrowing and bike lane improvements along the entire corridor and a mini roundabout at the Kilgore Road intersection.” The purpose of the project was to “enhance safety and improve traffic flow.”
The lawsuit alleges the defendants “failed to provide adequate warning of the work being done” and argues Lausevic’s injuries could have been prevented.
“As a direct and proximate result of the negligence, carelessness, and recklessness of Defendants, Plaintiff was severely injured and sustained damages,” the lawsuit said.

The other defendants named in the lawsuit are Rapid Services LLC, Psomas, Sierra Traffic Markings Inc., Asphalt Impressions 24 Inc., Pavement Coatings Co., Gremelli Industries and Wood Rodgers Inc.
The lawsuit also alleges Lausevic filed a government claim with the city in January seeking compensation for his injuries, but the claim was rejected in February.
The lawsuit alleges dangerous condition of public property, negligence, and premises liability.
City spokespersons did not immediately respond to The Bee’s requests for comment.
Lausevic is seeking unspecified damages and requested a jury trial. An initial case management conference is scheduled for May 11.
