A man convicted of fatally shooting his mother at a Sacramento-area senior living facility before engaging in a shootout with Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies was sentenced to life in state prison for the woman’s 2021 murder, Sacramento County District Attorney’s officials announced Friday.

Ali Mustafa Hudson, 47, was sentenced Friday in Sacramento Superior Court to 159 years to life for the January 2021 shooting that killed his mother, 66-year-old Ramona Hayes, in the case before Sacramento Superior Court Judge Tami Bogert.
Deputies on Jan. 19, 2021, were called twice to the facility on reports of domestic violence. Hayes had filed a restraining order against Hudson, the District Attorney’s Office said.
An armed Hudson barricaded himself and his mother inside her apartment after deputies responded to the second call for help before shooting Hayes four times, killing her. Hudson then turned his gun on deputies, engaging in a shootout that ended only after Hudson ran out of ammunition, the District Attorney’s Office said.

Hudson was shot in the exchange with deputies but was wearing body armor and sustained minor wounds, said prosecutors.
Sacramento Superior Court jurors convicted Hudson at trial in April of second-degree murder in Hayes’ shooting; and two counts of attempted murder connected to the gun battle with deputies. He was also convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm. A prior allegation of attempted robbery with a firearm was also found true at sentencing, the District Attorney’s Office said.
