The Green Bay Packers’ offensive line has undergone some changes heading into the 2026 NFL season and will feature one of the team’s defining offseason position battles. The team will kick off training camp on Wednesday, with rookies set to report on Monday, allowing the staff to monitor the right guard spot during the remainder of the offseason.

Former second-round pick Anthony Belton struggled at times during his rookie campaign, ultimately carving out seven starts over 14 games. He finished the year with a 49.7 PFF grade, which ranked 72st among 81 qualifying guards in 2025.
The front office brought in interior offensive lineman Jager Burton in the fifth round of the 2026 draft, and the versatile rookie is expected to compete for the starting job. The coaching staff will work to shore up the front ahead of a crucial campaign for star quarterback Jordan Love, with Belton and Burton each set to take first-team reps during camp.
PFF ranked the Packers’ offensive line 19th in the NFL a season ago, but it only gave up 21 sacks, with Love posting his most efficient campaign to date. Matt LaFleur will look to maintain such a trend in 2026, with expectations rising for Love after another early postseason exit.

Jager Burton’s Athleticism Could Force Decision For Packers’ Staff At Anthony Belton’s RG Spot
Despite falling to the fifth round, Burton emerged as one of the most versatile offensive linemen of any player in his position group coming out of Kentucky. He carved out starts at center and both guard spots during his five seasons and led all centers at the combine with an athleticism score of 96.0.
He’s still a raw prospect entering his first training camp, but with an impressive offseason, he could take over Belton’s spot at right guard if the North Carolina State product continues to struggle. Keeping Love protected is the name of the game for LaFleur’s staff coming into the year. With improved protection, the former first-round pick limited turnovers and flashed improved decision-making from the pocket.
After back-to-back years of regression from a rushing attack that had emerged as a focal point for the offense, LaFleur and offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich will look to get back to a pass-first mentality in 2026. Veteran running back Josh Jacobs is set to anchor a rushing attack that should produce nicely, but for the team to make a deep postseason run, they’ll need Love to get back to his 2023 heights. That starts with the signal-caller’s protection up front, making the decision at right tackle that much more crucial.
