Nobody won the jackpot, which now rises to an estimated $633 million, with a cash value of about $277.3 million, for the next drawing Monday, July 27, the national Powerball site said.
The IRS requires an automatic 24% withholding on lottery prizes of more than $5,000, and winners may be pushed into the highest 37% bracket for annual income taxes. Lottery winnings are exempt from state income taxes in California.
A winner who chooses the cash value of the current jackpot would receive approximately $210 million after federal withholding taxes.
The highest Powerball jackpot in history was $2.04 billion, won in 2022 by a single ticket sold in Altadena, California.
The Powerball jackpot was last won May 2, when players from Florida and Texas hit the $20 million jackpot.

To score a jackpot in Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.
The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.

Powerball drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time and can be streamed online.

Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
