The Kansas City Royals received disappointing news regarding third baseman Maikel Garcia after his rehabilitation assignment was cut short. MLB.com’s Anne Rogers reported Garcia experienced renewed pain in his left hand during Tuesday’s rehab game with Double-A Northwest Arkansas before returning to Kansas City for further evaluation.

Garcia had been expected to continue his rehab Wednesday as the designated hitter but was scratched from the lineup after the discomfort returned. The setback delays his recovery from the left-hand muscle strain that landed him on the injured list on June 23.
The 26-year-old was making his first rehab appearance and went 0-for-3 with a strikeout. According to Rogers, Garcia felt the pain on consecutive swings during his final at-bat, prompting the Royals to end the assignment and have him examined by the club’s medical staff.

Before landing on the injured list, Garcia appeared in 69 games while batting .261/.320/.373 with three home runs, 30 RBIs, 17 doubles and two triples. His absence has left Kansas City without one of its most reliable infielders on both sides of the ball.

Josh Rojas is expected to continue handling third base while the Royals await additional medical results. The organization has not announced a timeline for Garcia’s return and will determine the next step after further evaluation.
Kansas City entered Wednesday with a 46-63 record, sitting last in the American League Central and 11 games behind the division-leading Chicago White Sox. The latest setback comes as the Monday trade deadline approaches and the club continues evaluating its roster for the remainder of the season.
