It has been a solid season thus far for the Washington Mystics as they currently sit eighth in the WNBA standings with a 15-12 record.

The Mystics have built a solid young core led by Sonia Citron, Kiki Iriafen, Shakira Austin and Lauren Betts and the team is in position to make the playoffs for the first time since 2023.
While Washington is currently holding onto the final playoff spot in the WNBA, the franchise may look to make some moves ahead of the trade deadline to upgrade their roster around their young core.
If the Mystics do end up taking this approach ahead of Sunday’s trade deadline, one player they could target is Los Angeles Sparks star Kelsey Plum.
Mock Trade Lands Mystics Kelsey Plum From Sparks
Of course, Plum has been the subject of trade rumors heading towards the deadline due to the Sparks’ struggles and her being in the final year of her contract.
Because of this, the Plum may be on the move this season and the Mystics could be a potential fit for the 31-year-old star.
In a potential trade, the Mystics could send a package of Georgia Amoore, Angela Dugalic, a 2027 first-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick to the Sparks in exchange for Plum.
While moving both Amoore and Dugalic could be a tough decision for the Mystics to make due to their age, swapping them for Plum could make Washington into a serious contender this season.

For Plum, she is one of the WNBA’s top scoring guards and she is also a great playmaker who could be a solid fit alongside Citron in the backcourt, along with the rest of Washington’s young core.
This season, the five-time All-Star is averaging 23.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 52.7% from the field and 38.3% from three over 12 games.
Of course, Plum is currently sidelined due to a lower left leg injury that has caused her to miss most of the season, which could cause the Mystics to look elsewhere to upgrade their roster.
Despite this, Plum is expected to return in the coming weeks and her addition to the Mystics’ young core could not only help Washington end their playoff drought this season, but also help them contend for a championship.
