Rancho Cordova police to hold DUI, driver’s license checkpoint this weekend

The Rancho Cordova Police Department will hold a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint at an undisclosed location Friday, the agency said in a news release.

The checkpoint is scheduled from 7 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday.

“DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes,” the release said. “The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.”

Funding for the checkpoint comes from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, authorities said.

California law requires drivers to stop and submit to a sobriety checkpoint when directed by law enforcement.

The city of Rancho Cordova contracts law enforcement services through the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
