NEWARK, N.J. – Will Scharf, the White House staff secretary, will become White House counsel and assistant to the president effective Sept. 1, President Donald Trump said on Sunday.

Scharf will become the White House’s top lawyer after overseeing the administrative work of the Oval Office in his current role.
He also led the National Capital Planning Commission, which approved the president’s construction of the White House ballroom.
Trump said David Warrington, the current White House counsel, is going to the private sector. Warrington formerly served as a personal counsel and a lawyer for Trump’s 2024 campaign.
In related news, North American Aerospace Defense Command on Sunday intercepted two general aviation aircraft that violated temporary flight restrictions as Trump attended a tournament at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

F-16 fighters safely escorted the two aircraft from restricted airspace, NORAD said in a statement.
NORAD declined to say whether the pilots of the two aircraft had made a mistake, saying that it is up to the Federal Aviation Administration to make that determination.
Pilots are required to check with the FAA to stay up to date about temporary airspace restrictions, NORAD said.
The White House did not immediately return a request for comment on the incident.
