The Browns’ preparation for the upcoming season continues, but it wasn’t smooth sailing.

Monken addressed this frustration, which resulted in a premature end to their offensive drill and a broken radio.

“Guys, I told them that in that moment what I should have done and what I didn’t do,” Monken said. “And as I’ve said to them enough, we’re human. I got fired up. I was pissed. That was awful. That was [expletive] football.”

The former University of Mississippi head coach, however, admitted that he needed to take accountability for his actions because it will reflect how he coaches the team.

“And that is gonna get me fired up, and I have to own some of that obviously,” he said. “We haven’t coached well enough. There were other aspects about the two-minute that got me fired up that obviously was a reflection of coaching.”

Monken also pointed out that they needed such moments to help mold the team moving forward, as the new season approaches.

“I mean, those things we’re getting plenty of effort,” Monken continued. “Guys are fighting their rear ends and were tough so we got that okay, well how are we going to do little things well and that’s coach, that’s me, that’s our staff.”

Monken was hired by Cleveland as their new head coach in January to potentially improve the team’s performance last season. The goal this year is to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2023.

The Browns are scheduled to play their first preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Saturday.
