How did California rate?

The golden state ranked 31st for best state to live in. According to WalletHub, California ranked last in affordability and 38th for safety. However, California ranked 2nd in quality of life and 15th for economy.

What are the five best states to live in?

Taking the top spot is Idaho which ranked in the top 10 for safety, affordability and economy.

  3. Wisconsin
  4. Massachusetts
  5. New Hampshire

What are the five worst states to live in?

At the bottom of the ranking is New Mexico. The enchantment state ranked 49th in safety and 47th in education and health.

How were rankings determined?

WalletHub compared the 50 states in five key areas: affordability, economy, education and health, quality of life, and safety.

Each metric was graded on a 100 point scale, with a score of 100 representing the most favorable living conditions.

Finally, WalletHub determined each state’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate the overall number and used the resulting scores to rank the states in order.
