ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Friday that DeRozan has agreed to sign a one-year, $3.9 million deal with the Denver Nuggets.
DeRozan, 37, joins a roster that features three-time MVP Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon. DeRozan, a six-time All-Star, could help the Nuggets challenge the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder for Western Conference supremacy next season. The Nuggets went 54-28 to finish third in the West last season before losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs.
DeRozan came out of USC as the No. 9 pick in the 2009 NBA draft. He has averaged 21.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists over 17 seasons in the NBA.
A master of the midrange game, DeRozan is widely regarded as one of the most prolific and durable scorers in NBA history. He ranks 18th on the league’s all-time scoring list with 26,711 points.

DeRozan spent nine years with the Raptors, three years with the Chicago Bulls and three years with the San Antonio Spurs before coming to Sacramento on a three-year, $74 million contract as part of a sign-and-trade deal.
In two seasons with the Kings, DeRozan averaged 20.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists while shooting 48.6% from the field, 32.5% from 3-point range and 86.2% at the free-throw line.
The Kings waived DeRozan in a cost-cutting move on July 26. He had $25 million remaining on the final year of his contract, but only $10 million was guaranteed.
The Kings are expected to use the stretch provision to the guaranteed portion of DeRozan’s salary as they try to avoid the luxury tax. They must make that decision by Aug. 31.
