Sacramento Regional Transit is looking for feedback from transit riders to improve access to a North Sacramento light rail station, which has been more difficult to reach since a nearby fire about five years ago.

An RT survey is asking riders about challenges they experience while traveling to the Roseville Road station, which is located in Del Paso Park between the east- and westbound lanes of Interstate 80, and what improvements they would like to see. The survey is part of an ongoing planning project looking at ways to make the station more accessible, especially for pedestrians and cyclists.
The Roseville Road station can be difficult to access for residents, who have not been able to use the nearby Grand Avenue bridge since 2021, when a fire spread beneath it, according to RT. The station serves the nearby Sacramento neighborhoods of Del Paso Heights, East Del Paso Heights, Hagginwood and Ben Ali as well as Arden Arcade in Sacramento County.
For about five years, a direct route to the light rail station has been unavailable for neighborhoods north of the railroad tracks, sending motorists west before heading back east to the station. Cyclists and pedestrians in particular face a path that is “indirect, uncomfortable or challenging,” RT said on its webpage for the Roseville Road station project.
The Roseville Road station planning project specifically aims to evaluate ways to improve access to the station, possibly by reopening and improving the Grand Avenue bridge. Some potential improvements, which survey respondents can rank by importance, include better lighting, public art, traffic calming near the station and improved ADA accessibility.

In the survey, participants can also indicate whether they want access to the Grand Avenue bridge to be available for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles or only for those walking and biking. Another option is to use the bridge only for events and special programs.
Taking the survey will “help shape the vision for a safer, more welcoming and better-connected station area,” agency spokesperson Jessica Gonzalez said.
RT will likely host a public workshop about the station in late September or early October, though a date has not been set, Gonzalez said. The survey will close after the workshop.
