The National Park Service is celebrating its 110th anniversary this week and marking the occasion with special events.

National Park Week runs from Aug. 22 to Aug. 30, so there is still time left to visit one of California’s public national treasures.
“Wrap up summer by coming out to explore nature and history, join ranger programs, earn your Junior Ranger badge, and more,” the Park Service said in a news release.
National Park Week this year also celebrates the nation’s 250th anniversary.
“Come visit where many of America’s important stories are shared—in our national parks,” the agency said.
Although free admission to the parks is only on Aug. 25, National Park Week schedules includes several theme days based around wildlife, freedom, staff and junior rangers.

Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 29 and 30, Yosemite National Park will offer a special Yosemite Art Trail program with a celebration marking Carleton Watkins’ historic first photographs of the Park, among other events. The art program includes hands-on activities for all ages.
Other daily events for the weekend include tours, ranger talks and Yosemite After Dark nature walk.
