The search for a Roseville hiker ended tragically Tuesday.
Ian Roberts, 24, who had been missing since Friday, was found dead Tuesday by searchers in the Auburn State Recreation Area, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced. Authorities said Roberts fell to his death from a steep embankment.

“We extend our deepest condolences to Ian’s family and are grateful for their kindness and support throughout the search efforts,” deputies said in a statement announcing the discovery.
Search and rescue teams from across Northern California joined the effort to find Roberts, who was reported missing by Roseville police early Saturday morning. Family members told Roseville police that Roberts was last seen 9:45 a.m. Friday.
The search for Roberts involved dozens of people from at least a dozen law enforcement agencies and search teams.
Helicopters and drones aided teams on the ground. Family members helped local authorities track Roberts’ car to an Auburn skate park, where it was located by Placer deputies, the Sheriff’s Office said.

But the search continued through the weekend and into a new week with no sign of Roberts until his body was found Tuesday in the state recreation area within Auburn city limits. The sheriff’s office said there was no indication of foul play.
The Auburn Police Department will investigate the circumstances surrounding Roberts’ death.
