A Sacramento man who brought his unresponsive 4-month-old child to a city fire station earlier this month was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of homicide in the infant’s death, Sacramento Police Department officials said.

Victor Maurice Weaver Jr., 22, was arrested by Sacramento detectives nearly two weeks after the child’s Aug. 14 death. Weaver brought the child to a fire station about 9 a.m. after leaving a residence in the 1700 block of West El Camino Avenue. The child later died at a hospital, department officials said in a Wednesday news release.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has yet to release the name of the infant.
Homicide and crime scene investigators took over the case along with Sacramento County Coroner’s Office investigators, who determined the infant’s death was a homicide. Detectives later secured a warrant for Weaver’s arrest and took him into custody Tuesday.
Weaver was being held without bail at the Sacramento County Main Jail. A court date had not yet been scheduled Wednesday, jail records showed.

The Sacramento Police Department continued to investigate the death and asked anyone with information to call dispatchers at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
Weaver’s arrest came after another Sacramento father was arrested in connection with the death of his infant child.
Emari Lee Thompson, 27, was arrested Aug. 15 on suspicion of murder after his 11-month-old daughter was found unresponsive at the family’s Pocket neighborhood apartment, police said last week. The girl, Zy’ari Alaya Thompson, died at a hospital Aug. 15, one day after the 4-month-old child in Weaver’s case died.
