The Arden Arcade Community Planning Advisory Council is set to consider a proposal tonight to convert the vacant Arden Arcade Macy’s building into self-storage units.

Seattle-based Tourbineau Real Estate Partners plan on turning the 156,000 square foot 4-story building into a mini-storage facility, with 106,600 square feet of rentable storage units and three exterior-facing small retail spaces. The former anchor store of the Country Club Plaza on the corner of Watt and El-Camino avenues has been vacant since 2016.
Tonight’s council meeting will start at 7 p.m. at the Swanston Community Center on 2350 Northrop Ave. The council’s primary purpose is to gather community input and feedback before making a recommendation to the Sacramento County Planning Commission, who will make the final decision on the project.
“We’re excited and look forward to redeveloping the former Macy’s at the Country Club Plaza and converting the long-vacant store into a self-storage facility operated by a major national brand,” Ben Wong, chief investment officer of Tourbineau Real Estate Partners, told The Sacramento Bee last year.

A separate proposal by the same developers would see part of the former Macy’s parking lot turned into an apartment complex.
