Aaron Donald’s wife, Erica, played a “huge” role in her husband’s NFL comeback.
The legendary Los Angeles Rams star announced on Sunday evening that he is returning for the 2026 season. Donald has signed a one-year, $20 million contract with the Rams, with playoff incentives potentially bringing the deal to $30 million. Donald will be teaming up with Myles Garrett on a loaded Rams defense.

But anyone who is married knows that a decision like this was not made alone. Donald made it clear at his press conference that his wife played a “huge” role in his comeback decision.
Donald, who last played during the 2023 NFL season, retiring in March of 2024, made it clear that his wife, Erica, played a significant role in his decision to come out of retirement and play again.
Rams star praises wife for her help
Donald said he was on the fence about returning, but his wife pushed him over the top.

“I think my wife played a huge part of me making this decision period because if the wife wasn’t happy, it wasn’t going to get done. I got to make sure that the household was good, the kids were okay with it all,” he said. “Then having the hard conversations, figuring things out, what I wanted to do. If I was to do it, how would we do it?
“My wife was on board. She said, ‘If you want to do this, (I’m) with (you) 100%,’ and there were days when I was like, ‘I don’t know.’ She talked to me enough to be like, ‘You want to do this. Don’t make no decisions faster than what you need to make a decision. Take your time.’ She played a huge part of me figuring this out because it really wasn’t an easy decision. It took a lot of hard work, a lot of long conversations with a lot of different people, but I felt good enough to make the decision to come back and do this.”

The Rams will enter the 2026 season as the favorites to win it all.
