One child and one adult were killed, and multiple people were taken to a hospital, after a truck drove into a crowd at a youth soccer game at the Scheels Stryker Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.
It was reported around 3:25 p.m., Wichita police Capt. Aaron Moses said. Two people, a 6-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man, were pronounced dead at the scene, while 11 others were hospitalized.
Wichita police said the driver of the truck is in custody, and there were two juveniles in the truck at the time.
Bethany Pope of Rose Hill, the soccer parent of a 9-year-old boy, said she was sitting in her car facing the field when she saw the black truck.
“The driver never slowed down,” she said. “The driver plowed through everybody.”
She said it happened on Field 4.
“The car drove right into all the kids and the parents and everything,” she said, adding that it “didn’t stop until it got through the whole field.”

Jessica Mozingo said she was at Stryker for a different flag football game.
“A woman revved her engine, our girls heard it, and she stormed,” she said.
The Kansas State High Schools Activities Association was holding its first girls flag football championship adjacent to the field at Stryker when it happened; KSHSAA games have since been postponed.
Mayor Lily Wu was briefly at the scene, and made a post on Facebook soon after.
“I’m heartbroken by reports of a tragic incident at Stryker Sports Complex,” Wu wrote. “My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected, especially the children and families involved.”
The City of Wichita posted on X that until further notice, all events have been canceled. They asked people to avoid the sports complex.
