Man fatally struck by freight train at Calvine Road rail crossing near Elk Grove

A Union Pacific freight train struck and killed a pedestrian Monday night at a Calvine Road rail crossing in southern Sacramento County near Elk Grove, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District officials said.

The southbound freight train struck the man about 8:42 p.m., Metro Fire officials said. Fire personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released by Sacramento County coroner’s officials pending notification of family members.

California Highway Patrol and Elk Grove police officers responded to the scene just north of the Elk Grove city limits, along with Union Pacific personnel, to investigate.
