A discarded Tesla wall battery caught fire inside a garbage truck in Citrus Heights Monday, sending Metro Fire crews to the scene, said fire officials.

The fire broke out just after 3 p.m. near Gardenvine Avenue and Gingerblossom Drive, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. The battery ignited trash inside the Republic Services garbage truck, forcing crews to dump the smoking trash onto the street, where firefighters extinguished the fire.
