All lanes of Interstate 80 near Sierra College Boulevard in the Loomis area reopened Wednesday morning after a fiery crash shut down westbound traffic and snarled the morning commute.

Caltrans said all lanes had reopened shortly before 10 a.m., about 2½ hours after the crash was reported at 7:27 a.m.
A vehicle crossed the center divide and struck a pickup truck towing a trailer, blocking lanes in both directions, according to CHP incident logs reviewed by The Sacramento Bee.

Placer County sheriff’s deputies responding to the crash reported hearing small explosions from an eastbound vehicle carrying fuel that was involved in the collision, according to the dispatch logs.
Deputies closed westbound I-80 at Horseshoe Bar Road about 7:45 a.m. All but one eastbound lane also was closed as authorities managed traffic and prevented motorists from attempting to turn around on the highway. Crews reopened one westbound lane shortly after 8:30 a.m., according to Caltrans.
