Authorities are looking for the driver who fled Wednesday night after striking and killing a bicyclist who had stopped to repair her bicycle on Franklin Boulevard in south Sacramento, the California Highway Patrol said.

The bicyclist, a 59-year-old woman, was struck and later died at a hospital, officials at the CHP’s South Sacramento office said.
Investigators said the woman was riding a bicycle with an attached trailer northbound along the shoulder of southbound Franklin Boulevard at 48th Avenue about 9 p.m. when the trailer’s axle broke. She was struck as she attempted to repair the axle, the woman’s boyfriend, who was riding with her, told CHP officers.
The vehicle drifted to the right toward the shoulder, struck the woman and continued south on Franklin Boulevard, according to the CHP. The woman’s boyfriend witnessed the collision and described the vehicle as an older model truck.

CHP investigators later recovered a right front wheel well liner and a broken piece of plastic associated with a 2014-2024 Infiniti Q50 compact sedan, officials said.
