Miguel Andujar has begun his final approach.
At least that’s the Padres’ hope.
The 31-year-old designated hitter began a rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A El Paso, going 1-for-4 with an RBI double in the team’s 8-7 loss at Tacoma.

Andujar has been sidelined since July 20 with a wrist fracture. He was hitting .259/.303/.423 with five homers and 22 RBIs in 74 games with the Padres.
Andujar leads the team with 56 starts at DH. With both him and Gavin Sheets (plantar fasciitis) on the injured list and the team rostering three catchers, Luis Campusano is getting a bit more runway at DH as he started there on Tuesday for the fourth time in the last six games.
Third baseman Will Wagner (.747 OPS) went 2-for-5 with a run scored and first baseman Nick Pratto (.782 OPS) went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, a walk and a run scored.
Left-hander JP Sears (7.82 ERA) struck out five over four shutout innings in the start. He allowed one hit and one walk.

Right-hander Brent Honeywell Jr. (0-1, 10.38 ERA) allowed four runs in one-third of an inning in the walk-off loss.
Before the game, right-handers JP France and José Leclerc were released and right-hander Trevor Gott was signed to a minor league deal and assigned to El Paso.
El Paso is 56-83.

Amarillo 7, Missions 6: LF Tirso Ornelas (.775 OPS) drove in two runs on two hits, including his seventh homer and a double. RF Alex McCoy (.811 OPS) went 2-for-5 with a double. 3B Luis Verdugo (.694 OPS) hit his ninth homer. RHP Victor Lizarraga (4-10, 7.34 ERA) allowed five runs in five innings in the loss.
