Former Dallas Cowboys star Tony Romo may have called his last game for CBS Sports.

On July 23, Romo was arrested in Wisconsin for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and possessing open intoxicants. As part of his plea deal, a Wisconsin court revoked his driving privileges for the next sixth months and ordered him to have an ignition interlock device installed in any vehicle registered under his name.
Romo released a statement earlier this month about his arrest as well as his future at CBS. It sounded like he’s more than willing to return to the booth.
“Multiple back surgeries ended my career earlier than I expected and left me with constant, debilitating pain. That pain led to a dependence on pain medication, and my efforts to get off those medications led to an over-reliance on alcohol. As I have taught my three young sons: when you fall short, you stand up and take full responsibility. That is an important first step. The harder and more important step is examining the path that brought you here and making the changes necessary to move forward. That path requires honesty,” Romo wrote.
“None of this is an excuse. These are my failures, and I take responsibility for them. The past month has been difficult, but it has also been personally significant. It has required me to confront and own my mistakes fully – to the Lord, to myself, to my family, and now to the public. I am working closely with a team of doctors to address my health and make the necessary changes. I am deeply grateful for the support of my family, my friends, and the NFL community including players, coaches, and owners. Your encouragement has meant more to me than you know. As I turn my attention to my health, my family and, in time, my return to CBS, I kindly ask for privacy during this period.”
Even though Romo mentioned his return to CBS, Andrew Marchand of The Athletic has doubts we’ll see him back on the network. In fact, he said the former Pro Bowl quarterback might be done at CBS.

“I think there’s a chance Tony Romo is done at CBS,” Marchand said. “I think, you look at it. I do think they want to get out of the Tony Romo business – especially at the No. 1 position… They have a Super Bowl, not this February but the following February. Do they want Tony Romo in the booth for that? No.”
CBS already has a replacement in mind for Tony Romo.
It has already been announced that J.J. Watt will fill in for Romo on the No. 1 broadcast crew. Since Watt moved up from the No. 2 team, CBS has decided to pair Ross Tucker with Ian Eagle for this season.
CBS president David Berson was recently asked about Romo’s future with the network. He tried his best to steer around that subject.
“I hope you can respect and appreciate this is a personal matter, and a legal one for Tony. So I can’t speak to that aspect. But I can say this is an evolving situation. Therefore, we’re still assessing,” Berson said. “There’s no timetable or final decision at this time. Since it continues to evolve, and we’re on the eve of the season, I felt it was very important that our team, the many, many people who work on the NFL on CBS, have certainty and direction so we can definitively plan.”

Only time will tell if Romo gets a second chance at CBS.
