After an offseason full of out-of-control hype, the superteam Los Angeles Rams looked nothing like the preseason favorites in the Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia.

Another concerning thing is the no-show Myles Garrett put together in his Rams debut, leaving the question of whether he is truly healthy while playing through an injury. 49ers left tackle Trent Williams held his own against Garrett, as the edge rusher subbed in and out of the game.
Thursday marked the fourth time in Garrett’s career he has been held without a single tackle or sack since he entered the league in 2017. “Every time he leaves the field, he really seems gassed,” sideline reporter Tom Pelissero said.
Could this be because of missed practice time?
Garrett missed practice time because of lower calf soreness and knee swelling. Head coach Sean McVay quickly shut down any need for concern, saying the team was being cautious with the future Hall of Famer, all to make sure he’s ready for the regular season.
In the opener, Garrett looked nothing like the reigning Defensive Player of the Year who broke the single-sack record. He was virtually nonexistent. For the first time since 2018, Garrett had zero pressures in 27 pass-rush snaps.

Garrett doesn’t seem fully healthy
Maybe Garrett’s injuries were more serious than McVay led everyone to believe. Through the next couple days, expect that topic to dominate headlines, as something seems off with the Rams’ new defensive centerpiece.
It’s only Week 1, and there is no need to panic. One loss to begin a long season doesn’t change the sky-high expectations surrounding the Rams to reach the Super Bowl for the first time since 2021. Their talent is just too great.
But the Rams acquired Garrett this offseason in order to make that happen. They will need him at his best. Hopefully, the Rams can get Garrett back to full health sooner than later.
“He looked tired. He looked like someone who hasn’t practiced,” former NFL linebacker Clay Matthews said following the Rams’ loss.
