Myles Garrett and the Los Angeles Rams did not have the opener they were hoping for, falling to 0-1 on the 2026 NFL season after a 27-7 loss to George Kittle and the San Francisco 49ers. And looking to avoid a 0-2 hole to begin the new season, the Rams will head back to the Bay Area to face John Harbaugh and the New York Giants.

Garrett was not at his best during his LA debut against the 49ers, not recording a single tackle or sack throughout the game. The former Cleveland Browns defensive end was coming off of a 23-sack season in 2025, breaking Giants legend Michael Strahan’s single-season sack record, winning the Defensive Player of the Year Award in the process.
But Garrett was limited throughout training camp and the preseason, dealing with a lingering knee injury. And the issue even forced Garrett to miss practice this week, before ultimately giving it a go.
But just before the Rams vs. 49ers matchup on Thursday, it was reported that Garrett “still has pain in his lower leg,” which may have affected his performance. However, on Tuesday, McVay noted that Garrett “looked great” heading into the game.
Following the loss to San Francisco, Garrety spoke to the media during a postgame press conference. The Los Angeles defensive end noted that this was the “worst version” of himself after nine years in Cleveland, while confirming that he is, in fact, not at 100%.

“After his 0-tackle Rams debut, Myles Garrett admits he’s not 100% after his knee issue in camp: ‘This was the worst version of myself that I’ve put out there, and I’ve got to be better,’” The Associated Press’ Greg Beacham wrote on X.

Garrett later noted that his focus is now on getting healthy for Week 2.
“Getting healthy,” Garrett said. “That’s the main thing. When I was out there, I was a little bit more focused on myself and trying to stay healthy than what they were doing and that showed. I wasn’t who I needed to be for my team.”
Garrett and the Rams will look to bounce back on Monday, Sept. 21, against the Giants, with kickoff set for 8:15 p.m. ET. Then, they will get a trip to Denver to face the Broncos in Week 3.
