Much of the talk this offseason has revolved around the Los Angeles Rams. It’s not hard to understand why, as they were already one of the best teams in the league, and they added Myles Garrett and Aaron Donald.
The Seahawks have to be slightly annoyed, though, that they’re the defending champions and everybody is instead talking about how good the Rams are. Well, the Rams got humbled in a big way on Thursday Night Football.
The 49ers dominated the Rams, winning 27-7. It was a shocking defeat for the Rams, who have been considered Super Bowl favorites for much of the offseason. The win was impressive for the 49ers, but the Seahawks might end up being the biggest winners of all.
Seahawks Win in Multiple Ways in Week 1
Even before the Rams’ brutal loss, the Seahawks were getting some positive momentum again. The team took down the Patriots on Wednesday night, even after Sam Darnold left the game in the first quarter.
The thing is, if the Rams would have turned around and dominated the 49ers on Thursday, the talk would have gone right back to how good the Rams are. Instead, the 49ers showed exactly why the game of football isn’t played on paper.

Matthew Stafford, fresh off an MVP season, only threw for 155 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Kyren Williams was held to 41 rushing yards, and Puka Nacua was kept out of the end zone.
On defense, the Rams really struggled against the run. The 49ers picked up 174 total rushing yards, averaging almost six yards per attempt. The 49ers also hit Stafford eight times on the night.
The Seahawks, and every other team, now have a perfect blueprint on how to beat the Rams. We’ve all seen that the Super Bowl favorite is far from perfect. It’s just one game, in Week 1, no less, but it’s hard to not see this as an ideal opening week for the Seahawks.
Now, the biggest test for Seattle will be surviving without Darnold. The quarterback will likely miss a game or two, which is much better than what was feared. Assuming the team gets and stays healthy, the Seahawks’ hopes for a repeat are alive and well.
