The San Francisco 49ers have given their fans plenty of reasons to celebrate this week.

On Thursday night, the 49ers made a statement by defeating the Los Angeles Rams 27-7 in their season opener. There was plenty of chatter about San Francisco’s decision to travel to Melbourne a week in advance for the first-ever game in Australia. The Rams, meanwhile, touched down in Australia a day before kickoff.
“Win or lose, I know everybody was going to make a big deal about that for either team,” Shanahan said. “You never know how much that factors into it. You just try to do the best to prepare for 3½ hours. I liked how we prepared, but more importantly, I liked how we played.”
Less than 24 hours after the 49ers defeated the Rams, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that Shanahan “quietly” received a contract extension this year. His deal was set to expire after the 2027 season.
“Stability in San Francisco: The 49ers quietly signed Kyle Shanahan to a contract extension in the offseason,” Pelissero said. “Shanahan was previously believed to be signed through 2027. Now, one of the NFL’s top coaches is locked up for years to come.”

No denying Shanahan’s greatness.
The 49ers are still searching for their first Super Bowl under Shanahan, but they’ve been knocking on the door ever since he took over in 2017.
Shanahan has made the Super Bowl twice and has reached the NFC Championship four times over the past decade.
Who knows? Maybe this is the year Shanahan snaps the Super Bowl drought in San Francisco.
