Nike’s stock, which hit an all-time high of more than $160 in 2021, is currently trading at less than $40. The $NKE stock is trading at $36.80 heading into the new week. It’s been an all-time bad start to the month for Nike.

Some are blaming Kaepernick for the price drop.

“In 2018, Nike decided to get in bed with Colin Kaepernick,” Craig Carton said. “And they scrapped ‘Just Do It’ and they started a new slogan, which was ‘Dream Crazy.’”

“The only thing crazy that they did was partner with a lunatic who hates America.”

But is Kaepernick actually the reason for the price drop?

Nike partnered with Kaepernick in 2018, two years after he started kneeling for the national anthem. The decision was controversial at the time. However, in the three years to come, Nike’s stock continued to go up.

If Nike’s stock went up in a big way for three years post-Kaepernick partnership, why is he now to blame for the stock drop?

“Facts have never been their strong point. Stock went up for nearly THREE YEARS after,” Darren Rovell shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Why is Nike’s stock down?

Darren Rovell previously pinpointed three potential causes for Nike’s decline among modern consumers.

“1. Focus on retro cushed them. Literally embracing a customer growing older. 2. Today’s kid doesn’t get excited about the swoosh. They lost all buzz. My boys would rather GOAT or The Drip Shop. 3. Completely abandoned storytelling,” he shared.

Ultimately, Nike’s stock is probably down for several reasons, but at the end of the day, blaming Kaepernick is seriously misguided.
