SAN JOSE – Winger Cam Lund was still being evaluated, and his availability for the start of training camp next week remained in question Sunday after he sustained an upper-body injury the night before in a Rookie Faceoff game against the Los Angeles Kings.

Lund was injured on a hit by Kings defenseman Jared Woolley during the first period of Saturday’s game at Tech CU Arena. Lund left the game briefly, returned shortly after to test the injury, but did not play the final two periods as the Sharks went on to a fight-filled 8-1 win.
Barracuda coach John McCarthy said Sunday morning that Lund, 22, was still being examined and that he would not play in Sunday’s game against the Utah Mammoth. The Sharks begin their main camp on Thursday.
“They’re still kind of looking at him,” and determining whether he’ll have to miss the start of camp, McCarthy said. “So once they finish their analysis, we’ll know.”

Lund, an AHL All-Star selection in 2026, suffered a season-ending injury in a game with the Barracuda last February when he toe-picked on the ice in a game and fell hard into the boards. He was playing his best hockey of the season and finished his first full year as a professional with 25 points in 37 games.
Lund was drafted in the second round, 34th overall, by the Sharks in 2022. After three seasons with Northeastern University, he signed an entry-level deal with the Sharks in March 2021 and finished that season with three points in 11 NHL games.
