Kyler Murray was knocked out cold on Sunday afternoon.
The Minnesota Vikings quarterback, who was named the team’s starter by head coach Kevin O’Connell, took a massive blow to the head in the first half of Sunday afternoon’s NFC North divisional game against the Green Bay Packers.
Murray, the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft out of Oklahoma, landed in Minnesota after leaving the Arizona Cardinals.
The NFL on CBS shared footage of the terrifying hit.
Murray appeared to be down out of conscious on the field for a bit, before he was eventually replaced by backup quarterback Carson Wentz.
J.J. McCarthy, the team’s former first round NFL Draft pick out of Michigan, has been relegated to third-string duties in 2026.

It’s a horrible start to his career in Minnesota
Hopefully, the hit to Murray wasn’t too serious, though it surely looks really bad as of this moment. He took a massive blow to the head and appeared to be knocked unconscious for a bit on Sunday afternoon.
Murray was a popular Comeback Player of the Year candidate heading into the 2026 season. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell has been known to rehab top quarterbacks, doing great work with Sam Darnold, who has gone on to thrive in Seattle.
Many NFL fans expected the Vikings to do the same with Murray. Unfortunately, though, his first NFL regular season game in Minnesota has ended with a bad head injury.
