After pulling away from Kentucky late on Saturday, Kalen DeBoer’s team scored their first SEC win of the year at Kroger Field.
But the standard in Tuscaloosa is championships, and Finebaum doesn’t believe the program is any closer to one than it was in its first few years under the ex-Washington coach.

“Yeah, I mean, I think we always thought this was a 9-3/10-2 team, and I haven’t really changed that,” Finebaum said on his regular Monday appearance on “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning.”
“I think we’re starting to get a better feel, maybe of the opposition around the league. … The schedule always set up well for Alabama, and again, some of our colleagues were looking at what happened in Pasadena as an indicator of what would happen at Kroger Field, and that’s not really logical thinking.”

“But I don’t know how you, in good conscience, if you know anything about college football, could have sat in front of a television camera Saturday morning and said Kentucky’s going to win this game,” Finebaum continued. “And I think the good thing for Kalen DeBoer is for all the shots that were taken at him at halftime, those people vaporized in the second half.”
Bama trailed Kentucky 17-13 at half but left Lexington with a 45-17 victory to remain undefeated on the young season.
Challenges await next month. But until then the Tide have a couple of very winnable games against Florida State and South Carolina at home.
