After spending over a decade with Adidas, the Miami Hurricanes have decided to go in a different direction for their uniform providers.

Back in 2015, the University of Miami agreed to a 12-year contract with Adidas. At that time, it was the most lucrative deal in the history of Hurricanes athletics. To be fair, Adidas needed to make an appealing offer to pull Miami away from its partnership with Nike.
That being said, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald is reporting that Nike is reuniting with the Hurricanes starting in 2027. It’s reportedly a 10-year deal that’s worth over $200 million.
“Per sources, UM is returning to Nike for one of the most lucrative deals in college sports history — a 10-year contract worth more than $200 M,” Jackson wrote. “Adidas made a counter-offer but did not match Nike’s exact terms. Takes effect with 2027 football season.”
What led to this deal between Nike and Miami?
According to Jackson, the Hurricanes’ brand has really improved over the past few seasons due to their success on the gridiron and hardwood. Clearly, the school did enough to attract a significant deal from Nike.

“UM would have been fine with Adidas matching Nike’s offer — ‘they’ve been a great partner,’ a source said — but UM is excited about Nike. One source said creative provisions in the contract that were challenging for Nike to match,” Jackson added in his report.
ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit has already offered his thoughts on this deal. He’s in favor of the Hurricanes leaving Adidas for Nike.
“Thank goodness,” Herbstreit wrote on X. “Miami players too good to be wearin those baggy [expletive] pants!!! Great news for the Canes!”
