In his last start, Pennsylvania Derby contender Our Moneyman finished a neck behind eventual Travers winner Leading Change in the Indiana Derby at Horseshoe Indianapolis on July 11.
“That was a bad beat,” trainer Bret Calhoun told Kentucky HBPA. “Our Moneyman was out of the gate tardy. They squeezed him out of there. He got shuffled back. He had to make an early move into a pretty strong half-mile pace and was closing hard. Then the rider dropped the crop.”
“I’m not taking anything away from [winner Leading Change],” Calhoun continued, “but I kind of think we were maybe the best horse that day.”

Later in July, Our Moneyman sold to KAS Stables for $2 million during the Fasig-Tipton July Horses of Racing Age sale. KAS Stables opted to keep Our Moneyman with Calhoun after the sale.
Our Moneyman won the black-type Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile Stakes and Crescent City Derby against Louisiana-breds at the Fair Grounds. In June, he finished second to Pennsylvania Derby 2-1 morning line favorite Further Ado in the G3 Matt Winn.
Our Moneyman, listed as 8-1 on the morning line, will exit post 3 in the 12-horse field with Manny Franco aboard for the first time. Indiana Derby fourth-place finisher Zinhal drew the rail for the Pennsylvania Derby.
