Manchester United hosts Brighton & Hove Albion tonight at Old Trafford in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Under-pressure manager Michael Carrick will be looking for an immediate bounce-back after United’s controversial 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in the weekend derby. Following the loss, the Red Devils sit 13th in the Premier League after four matches, with just four points.
Meanwhile, Fabian Hurzeler’s Brighton enters the match with plenty of confidence after a 5-0 away win over Coventry City. The Seagulls currently sit fifth in the Premier League with two wins, one draw, and one loss.
Historically, United has the advantage in the head-to-head record, with 22 wins compared to Brighton’s 10, along with six draws across 38 meetings.
Both teams are also dealing with several absences and are expected to rotate their squads. For United, summer signing Carlos Baleba will miss the chance to face his former club due to an ankle injury, while Matthijs de Ligt, Manuel Ugarte, and Amad Diallo also remain unavailable.

Hurzeler is also dealing with an extensive injury list. Kaoru Mitoma, Yankuba Minteh, Evan Ferguson, Mats Wieffer, Stefanos Tzimas, Jack Hinshelwood, and Zadok Yohanna are all ruled out.
