Lux was a highly-touted freshman at Chaparral High School in 2024. He would have been considered the quarterback of the future for most programs, but Lux’s path to meaningful playing time was blocked. Dane Weber was a sophomore that year, and he had a stranglehold on that starting quarterback job. Weber was chosen the IE Varsity Offensive Player of the Year last season.
So, Lux had a decision to make: Stay at Chaparral and wait to be handed the keys to the offense, or forge a new path for himself.
Great Oak became the obvious choice for Lux. He was familiar with the Wolfpack’s playbook because he played Pop Warner football for offensive coordinator Ryan Smith. Lux knew many of his new teammates from youth football, so the transition was seamless.
“I believed I was ready to show what I could do on the field,” Lux said. “And Great Oak was a perfect fit for me in so many ways.
“I have to give the glory to Jesus Christ, my coaches and my teammates. Without those around me, I’m nothing,” Lux added. “I have a great supporting cast behind me, with my parents and my grandparents. It’s easy to get better with all that support.”
And Lux, who stands 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, quickly made a name for himself last year. He completed 70.6% of his passes for 2,799 yards and 29 touchdowns and also led the Wolfpack to quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 4 playoffs.
Lux is putting up even more impressive numbers this season. He has thrown for 1,214 yards and 15 touchdowns through the first four games of his junior campaign. Lux will guide the offense again Friday evening as the Wolfpack (3-1) host San Jacinto (3-0).

“The first thing you notice about Trent is how focused he is on the game of football,” Great Oak coach Herschel Ramirez said. “We are very fortunate that he made the decision to come to Great Oak. … His work ethic and his acumen have matched up with everything we expected. He continues to get the job done, and he is putting himself in position to play at the next level.”
Lux had some extraordinary performances last season, but many really took notice after he helped Great Oak to a 42-21 win over Vista Murrieta in this year’s season opener. Lux completed 10 of 12 passes for 239 yards and a career-high five touchdowns.
Last week, Lux and company found themselves trailing Murrieta Mesa 34-21 with 8 minutes remaining. Great Oak scored the final 16 points to pull out a 37-34 victory. Lux passed for a career-high 377 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 106 yards and one touchdown. He threw two touchdown passes down the stretch to lead the comeback.
“I kept telling the rest of the offense to stay ready because our defense was going to get us the ball back,” Lux said about the final moments of that game. “I believe that showed the character of our team and our ability to battle.”
Ramirez called last week a signature moment for Lux and the program.
“Trent put the team on his back during those final moments of the game,” Ramirez said. “He had that steady and unwavering focus and went out and made big plays with his arm and his legs. … You want your quarterback to be that example in fighting for your team. And he fought for every yard, every first down and every touchdown. … That was a really fun game to watch.”
Lux still is flying under the radar when it comes to college recruiting, but he is prepared to let his film and play do the talking.
“I’m just going to control what I can control, and that’s my play and whatever I can do to help my team win games,” Lux said.
