The San Antonio Spurs have had a quiet offseason thus far as they have not made many moves and have instead decided to once again rely on their core, led by Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper, entering the new season.

Of course, the Spurs are coming off a trip to the NBA Finals last season and they decided to keep their roster intact this offseason as they signed Victor Wembanyama to a maximum contract extension and re-signed Julian Champagnie and Harrison Barnes.
San Antonio also made some key additions to their roster as they signed Tobias Harris in free agency and drafted Jayden Quaintance and Tarris Reed Jr.
While San Antonio is hoping that these moves will help the franchise take another step forward this upcoming season, they could also look to make a splash via trade to add more key players to bolster their roster.
If they elect to do this, two players they could target are Trey Murphy III and Dejounte Murray of the New Orleans Pelicans.
Mock Trade Sends Spurs’ De’Aaron Fox to Pelicans for Trey Murphy III, Dejounte Murray
In a potential trade that could not be completed until Dec. 15 due to Barnes’ recently signed restriction, the Spurs could send a package of De’Aaron Fox, Barnes and multiple first-round picks to the Pelicans in exchange for Murphy III and Murray.
For the Spurs, moving on from Fox could be a tough decision for them to make, though he did struggle during their playoff run last season, and trading him would open the door for Harper to enter the starting lineup.
San Antonio would also flip Fox for two key players who could fill some key holes in their rotation to help them compete for a title this upcoming season.

Murphy III would provide the Spurs with a reliable scorer and defender who has shown flashes of being a potential star in the NBA during his time in New Orleans.
The 26-year-old forward could also be a solid fit in San Antonio’s starting lineup as he would give the team another key defensive threat while also being able to stretch the floor on the offensive end.
For Murray, he would return to San Antonio, where he spent the first six seasons of his NBA career, and provide the Spurs with a reliable backup point guard who is a reliable scorer, playmaker and defender.
While this trade could work out well for San Antonio, the Pelicans may want more in return as they have had a high asking price for Murphy III. If that is the case, the Spurs could look elsewhere to upgrade their roster at a cheaper price or elect to keep their current roster intact as they try to compete for a title.
