But what if I told you this is a new season (duh, sorry), a different kind of Bills offense that Josh Allen hasn’t had before, and — most importantly — not the Lions you’re used to. That’s why I think the Bills have a significant edge beyond the -4.5 spread they are receiving in Buffalo on Thursday Night Football. Did I mention its the debut of the new Bills stadium?

Whether you’re agonizing over an add/drop for your Fantasy team or just playing the lines, here’s a quick and dirty overview of the Buffalo and Detroit angles worth considering when getting your wagers, or just your expectations, in check for this highly anticipated battle.
The Buffalo Bills 2026 offense is just getting started
The difference between last year’s Bills offense and this year’s is simple: DJ Moore, DJ Moore, and DJ Moore (and maybe, hopefully, Keon Coleman showing up to practice).
For those who didn’t watch, DJ Moore essentially single-handedly carried the Bills down the field for a touchdown in the first half. Moore drew a pass interference call, then caught successive chunk play passes to get the Bills into the red zone. Moore finished with 100 yards on 5 receptions and a TD, a WR1 debut that already cements him in the Bills record books.
Of course, Moore needed someone to pass him the ball in order to rack up those records…
Josh Allen will have his most balanced year ever
And, in this case, ‘most balanced’ could also be a synonym for ‘best’.
Josh Allen came into the league a lanky, run-first quarterback with a, shall we say, sketchy throwing motion. Allen famously corrected that throwing motion ahead of the 2024 season, unlocking accuracy, efficiency, and improving deep-ball capacity.

Combining his newfound accuracy with his already stellar run game has led to an MVP in 2025 and a lot of touchdowns along the way. It has also led to some unique records. As of October last year, Allen holds the record for most games with both a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown. And, as of Week 1 of 2026, he also holds the record for games with 2+ rushing touchdowns and 2+ passing touchdowns, with 9 total.
The one thing Josh Allen‘s arm and body haven’t gotten him yet is, you guessed it, a Super Bowl; soul-crushing, franchise-shaking losses have defined the last few Bills postseasons. This year, however, should feature a wiser, more-balanced-than-ever-before Allen, who sits comfortably at the top of any sane analyst’s QB rankings. That should give you courage when taking Josh Allen player props (or the Bills in general).
The Lions offense might not be the same
Lastly, we turn to their opponents. Luckily, as of right now, we don’t know if these Lions are the Lions of years past.
The Lions eked out a 31-30 victory over the maybe not-so-good New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Their offense heavily featured star RB Jahmyr Gibbs (as expected), and the Lions needed a failed 2-point conversion by the Saints in order to squeak past them.
In other words, it was a win but not a convincing win.
So, given that 1/ we might not know everything we need to know about the Lions offense, 2/ this Bills offense looks even better than last year, I’m leaning towards the Bills having a convincing victory tonight.
Oh, and throw in that the Saints aren’t the Chiefs in the playoffs (Bills kryptonite), and I think a Bills victory might come easier than bookmakers think. That said, this game screams points, so feel free to indulge in player props on both sides. I’m edging Bills props because it’s what I know, but, to be clear, I doubt the Bills defense will shut down the Lions offense totally.
