The Davis skateboarding community rolled up to shred on Friday night as the city celebrated the opening of its new skate park.

“I feel really excited and happy, and I just love seeing everyone out here — although it’s kind of hard to escape right now because there’s a lot of people,” skating enthusiast Jessica Alvarado said.
The recently completed $1.2 million project replaced a facility built in Community Park in 1992. The city determined in 2024 that the park was outdated and needed to be completely rebuilt.
“I like how they paid homage to the old skate park, like with the little snake run, the bowl, the clamshell and some of the other transitions,” Alvarado said. “But then they also create something new where you can create new lines and get really creative with it.”
The park was designed and built by Grindline Skateparks. Demolition of the old park began in March.

“It’s going to be a great new gathering space for our community where the skateboarders can come and hang out with their old friends, meet new friends, and just have a great time doing what they love,” said Davis Mayor Donna Neville.
“What’s really special about it is that it is designed by people who understand skateboarding, and it’s really state of the art, and it brings the skateboard park up to a whole new level,” Neville said.
The free public park is open from dawn to dusk.
“I like how it feels on my wheels for sure,” Alvarado said. “This is like my joy.”
