The Rancho Cordova City Council voted to approve a third amendment to a contract for improvements on Mather Field Road, bringing the total cost of the project to over $1.2 million.

At its meeting Monday, the council unanimously approved a nearly $60,000 increase in the contract. The item was on the meeting’s consent calendar.
The project includes widening sidewalks, upgrading the wall treatment on the east side of the road and adding a pergola at Croydon Drive, according to the staff report. The improvements are intended to improve pedestrian safety, accessibility and aesthetics.

The contract increase was due to “unforeseen field conditions, construction conflicts and design modifications encountered during construction,” according to the contract.

The original contract with Martin General Engineering Inc. was approved in February, according to the staff report.
Mather Field Road is a “key entry point and corridor” for Rancho Cordova, according to the staff report, and the city has worked in recent years to improve the road and its surrounding area. Improvements to the road were most recently made over the summer.
Funding for the project is included in the city’s operating and maintenance budget under community enhancement funds, according to the staff report.
