A man was sentenced this week to more than 30 years in prison for a 2023 shooting that injured two people inside a car in Sacramento County’s La Riviera neighborhood.

A Sacramento Superior Court jury on Aug. 22 convicted Anthony Gibbs, 56, of attempted murder as well as two counts of shooting at an occupied vehicle and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday in a news release. Judge Michael Sweet on Tuesday sentenced Gibbs to 31 years and 4 months in prison.
Sheriff’s deputies responded the evening of Dec. 1, 2023, to a shooting on Tuolumne Drive that left a man hospitalized with serious injuries and a woman with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to previous Sacramento Bee reporting. Deputies arrested Gibbs later that month.
Gibbs fired at least eight rounds into the car, striking the driver four times and the front passenger in the cheek, the DA’s Office said.

The jury also found true an “aggravating factor that the crime involved planning, sophistication or professionalism,” prosecutors wrote in the news release.
Gibbs remained in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail on Thursday, awaiting transfer to state prison.
