The Morgan Scalley era couldn’t be going better. After taking over the Utah (3-0) head coaching gig in a full-time role, his team won the first three games by a combined score of 142-24. That was fun, and beating Arkansas was nice, but now it matters.
If the Utes are really that good, it needs to blast away on Iowa State (2-1) in the first road game of the year.
The Cyclones lost a tough defensive battle against Iowa, but destroyed SE Missouri State and Bowling Green for a decent start under new head man Jimmy Rogers. Win this, and all of a sudden, the Cyclones are on the radar.

Why Utah Will Win
The Utes have been close to flawless. None of the first three games have been particularly interesting. The offense has been balanced, explosive, and while the two turnovers aren’t great, they didn’t matter.
Penalties aren’t a problem, the defense is stuffing everything, and the takeaways are there, with five so far. Iowa State needs to run to win, and it won’t be able to power away on the Ute defensive front.
Why Iowa State Will Win
Utah’s first road game will be a different animal.
Iowa State might not have the offense to hang around in any sort of shootout, but the defense has been magnificent from the start. It’s tough, a rock against the run, and it doesn’t break when bending against the short-range passing game.
Like Utah, it doesn’t screw up. The Cyclones have only turned it over twice with just 14 penalties.

Utah vs Iowa State Prediction, Betting Lines
Iowa State will hold up defensively and frustrate the Utah offense for a half. And then the Ute lines will start to take over, and the running game will start moving the ball.
The Cyclones won’t get the field position or takeaways they’ll need to win, but they’ll put up a great fight.
