East Ascension High School will celebrate its 2026 hall of fame and wall of fame inductees during homecoming.

According to information shared by EAHS, wall of fame inductees are chosen based on their giving substantial time or financial contributions to the Gonzales school.
Hall of fame inductees are chosen based on earning all-state or all-America honors in high school or playing at the collegiate or professional level.
The inductees for this year are:
Ricky Gautreau
As shared by school officials, Ricky Gautreau has dedicated many hours of service and financial backing to the school over the years.
He is a 1976 graduate who lettered both in football and baseball and wanted to give back to his alma mater, so he became the PA announcer at all football games from 1992 to 2024.
He is married to Susie Gautreau and they have four children who all attended Ascension Parish Schools. His career has spanned working at Triad Chemical and being a real estate broker in the parish for more than 25 years.
Martin “Buzzy” Haydel
Martin “Buzzy” Haydel is a 2005 graduate who was named the Student of the Year due to his gregarious personality and his leadership in many clubs and teams at East Ascension.
He was the starting quarterback for two years for the Spartans and led the team to the 2003 district championship and to the playoffs both his junior and senior seasons.
His legacy in sports was in baseball, as he was a two-time All-State performer and was instrumental in leading the Spartans to its only baseball state championship in 2003 with a .416 batting average.
Haydel was named district 7-4A’s MVP both his junior and senior seasons and helped the school to win three district championships while playing third base, shortstop and pitcher.
He was awarded a scholarship to play baseball for LSU and lettered four years for the Tigers. He was a part of three SEC tournament championships and the 2009 National Champion team.
Another interesting fact is that Haydel hit the last home run in the old Alex Box Stadium during the 2008 Super Regional.
He is currently an insurance agent and the husband to Annie Beth and father to Mary Ellis and Caroline Haydel. He also serves as the color analyst for LSU baseball on the LSU Sports Radio Network.
Holly Moran
Holly Moran, a 2004 graduate, said EAHS continues to hold a special place in her heart as she has memories of Friday night football games where she roamed the field as the mascot and hanging out in the mall.

She credited the faculty and staff, along with coach Chris Goodall for helping to shape her into the person she became.
Moran was a dominant player in soccer as she was a four-year letterman who earned All District, All Metro and All State honors as goalkeeper. After her junior season, she was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Louisiana and also honored as the Star of Stars by the Advocate.
She earned a scholarship to Southeastern Louisiana University where she received Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Week awards several times as she led the Lions to three Southland Conference tournament appearances.
Moran has coached on multiple levels since college, including being an assistant coach on two state champion teams with St. Scholastica in 2015 and 2018. She also has been sought out by club teams to train their upcoming goal keepers.
Her family, including her parents, siblings and nieces and nephews, are all graduates of East Ascension.
Moran is married to wife Desiree.
Lawrence Nelson
Lawrence Joseph Nelson Jr. had an exemplary basketball career which began in the school gymnasium and took him around the world.
He said that his formative years at the school were shaped by family, community and the values of hard work and resilience.
Nelson earned a scholarship to Tulane University where he established himself as one of the most prolific shot blockers in the Green Wave’s history, finishing his collegiate career with 181 blocked shots.
He embarked on a professional career that saw him compete in leagues across the world from Canada, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Russia.
Nelson also enjoyed a tenure playing with the Harlem Globetrotters.
He resides with his wife, Enjoli, in Houston and has entered into a new chapter as an entrepreneur and founder of Big Man Business where he serves as a mentor to guide the next generation of young basketball talent.
Nelson joins his younger brother, Shawn, as a member of the schools’ hall of fame.
